Amy’s House received its own 501 (c)3 in December 2023, and as of January 2024, it is no longer owned or operated by TRIO. Our by-laws now make TRIO a member-driven organization with officers rather than a Board of Directors, so all decisions will be made by the members. TRIO’s focus has always been education of the public about organ and tissue donation and advocating in legislatures to address the great need for organ and tissue donation. However, TRIO will continue to support Amy’s House in any way possible. And one way to support Amy’s House is to tell the story.

Amy’s House is owned and operated by Amy’s House Foundation. Amy’s House has three staff members who manage the house.  Volunteer workers also help and there is always an opportunity for anyone interested who may want to donate some time to help the house run smoothly.

Social workers at Baylor Scott & White (BSW) refer patients to Amy’s House, but patients can also request rooms without a referral. Amy’s House depends on donations and grants for operating funds.  Amy’s House does not receive BSW or governmental funds. Although our requested donation is $50 a night per room, we realize that the cost of medical care can create financial difficulties for our guests. Transplant social workers and the staff at Amy’s House work with families to determine an affordable solution for their situation.  TRIO applies for grants and appeals to the public for operating funds to underwrite the cost of needy families’ stays.  Any donation made to Amy’s House is used exclusively to meet the needs of our guests.
