A Heartfelt Testament
Here’s the story of a family determined to help their loved one have a successful heart transplant. The picture below features Ronald Boley with his caregiver sisters. Heart transplant requires a long stay, but the caregivers were instrumental in Ronald’s recovery, and Ronald was determined.
Here is a recent newsletter from Phyllis Renfrow, our executive director.
Hello,
Amy’s House is ready for Fall - Leaves are falling, pumpkin spice lattes and muffins are being sold everywhere, temperatures are dropping and the BSWH transplant team are "hard at work" trying to give some early Christmas gifts! Life couldn’t be better.
I’d like to share a story about some of our current house guests with you. Meet our resident heart recipient Ronnie, who I describe as the model heart patient. He walks every day with his brother-in-law, Chris, who is one of three caregivers. His two sisters, Sandra and Karen. are also caregivers, and they spend their time reading labels on food packages and preparing heart healthy menus that are completely in line with the dietician’s recommendations.
What a tribute to the donor that a family would appreciate their gift so much that they would do everything possible to get their brother off to a perfect start. Their motto should be “No Rejection!”
Caregivers make a big difference in the life of a transplant patient and Amy's House makes a big difference in the life of a caregiver post-transplant. In the words of John Henderson, caregivers need care too! Here are some comments from recent guests and a photo of Ronnie & his support team.
Thanks for all you continue to do for these families. Please know how much each of you and your efforts are appreciated!
