With Grateful Hearts
The members of TRIO Central Chapter are delighted to announce the receipt of a very generous grant given by the Order of St. Lazarus. This ancient chivalric order had its origins in Jerusalem during the Second Crusade and was chiefly involved in providing health care for lepers. The Order's philanthropic activities today have extended to other fields supporting various medical missions in the developing world. We are fortunate that organ and tissue transplantation is one of their interests.
The grant will serve to underwrite the stays of patients and caregivers who are experiencing financial strain due to the high cost of medical care involved with organ transplant. Amy's House provides comfortable, safe, sanitary, and affordable lodging conveniently located near Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, Texas. Our guests constantly comment about how grateful they are for the assistance and comfort they receive at Amy's House. But TRIO could not provide these services without the help of grants and donations such as the one extended to us by the Order of St. Lazarus. Additionally, Amy's House was also gifted a generous donation by the Commandery of the Southwest of the Order of St. Lazarus. The gift from the Commandery will serve to provide immediate assistance in the form of food, fuel, clothing, and other items as needed by our guests during their stay.
We commemorate these special gifts by recognizing them with engraved leaves on the donor tree: a gold leaf for the Order of St. Lazarus and a green leaf for the Southern Commandery.
